Sasha stared at the little white pregnancy test-stick, in disbelief! It just turned blue! She almost fainted. Instead, she sat on the edge of the bathtub, to catch her breath and calm down a little.
It had been a busy year, since they had moved in together, in Sasha’s house in Denmark. They lived here most of the time because of Sasha’s work and because the rest of the band could, easy, pick up Chester in Copenhagen, when they were on tour.
They had been on tour for a lot of the past year, but Chester usually made an effort of coming home, as often as possible, as soon they were near Europe.
Sasha did not love the tour part of living with him, because she missed him horribly when he was away, but she also knew that it was part of the life, she had started when she agreed to move in with him.
Chester had had two months off and they had shared a wonderful Christmas in Sasha‘s house, with just the two of them having a nice candlelit dinner and then they had exchanged presents and worshipped each other for the rest of the night.
Chester had gotten her the most beautiful necklace. A plain silver one, with a pendant of a dolphin. She had told him that she did not want diamonds or anything like that, because she would never wear it, anyway.
Sasha had many problems figuring out what to get Chester for Christmas, but had finally decided to buy him a new watch.
They had also decided to get matching tattoos when the New Year came around, which they had done in Chester’s Club Tattoo in America. They had gotten a logo with an S and a C, which Chester and Mike had designed. Sasha had gotten it on the back of her neck and Chester had gotten it right above his bellybutton.
New Year’s eve, they had spent at Mike’s house, in California, with the rest of the band and their spouses. It had been a great party, with lots of wonderful food, many beverages and great music on Mike’s stereo.
Sasha and Chester had enjoyed themselves in the two months, they had together before Chester and the band was kicking off their European tour.
Chester had started talking about them having a child, before they had started the tour, but Sasha had not been all that into it.
“Chester, I don’t think I’m cut out to be a mom, to be honest.” She had finally told him, after avoiding the subject for a long time.
“Why wouldn’t you be?” Chester asked her, looking a little scared. He loved children and had always dreamt of having many kids running around in his house.
“….because I’m a hysterical pregnant dog, who would probably kill her children or something?” She snapped at him.
“I’m sure you wouldn’t, babe.” Chester said, as he put his arms around her, holding her tight.
Sasha had changed the subject every time he had brought it up, because she did not really want to deal with the whole thing about becoming a mom.
Now, it seemed, she would not have a choice. Sitting on the edge of the tub, she sighed, while staring at the blue stick in her hand. Two weeks before he went back on tour, and now this.
She knew that Chester would become ecstatic, but she did not quite know how to tell him the news because…well, she did not really know how she felt about it, herself.
Chester banged on the door. “Sasha? Honey, are you okay?” He asked, through the locked door. Sasha could hear the worry in his voice. She knew that he was worried, mainly because the door was locked and they did not have the habit of locking the doors around the house.
“I’m fine, bunny. I’ll be out in a minute.” She answered him, trying to sound calm, but knowing that he would be able to hear the tension in her voice.
She knew he was waiting for her, right outside so she tried to take a few deep breaths to calm herself down. She hid the pregnancy test in the cupboard, decided that she would wait a few days to tell him, unlocked the door and went out to him.
He gave her a suspicious look and asked “Are you sure, you’re okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Just my stomach being a little weird.” She said, knowing that it would be a minor miracle, if he bought it because she was a terrible liar. She knew she should not be lying to him, in the first place, but she was scared to death and she wanted to go to her doctor to make sure, before she told him.
“Hmm, but you don’t normally lock the door just because your stomach’s being weird.” He said, still looking at her, as if he knew that she was keeping something from him.
Chester was suspicious, because he could tell that she was lying to him. He knew Sasha well enough to know that she would not just lock the door for an upset stomach. They had lived together for a year and she had never done that. He knew that she was hiding something from him and he intended to find out what it was. He would push her a little bit, to try and get her to tell him what was up, but if that failed he would leave it alone and see what happened. Usually, Sasha just needed time before she told him certain things. She needed time to find a way to tell him, not to mention that she had to find the right words, in English.
Even though he was very impressed with her English, when they had first met, and that it had only improved over the past year, she was still very self-conscious about it and did not want to make things sound the wrong way, when she told him something.
He respected that, even though he was sometimes annoyed with how long it took her to tell him something.
Sasha looked at him, with tired eyes. “I swear, bunny. I just have an upset stomach and I just needed ten minutes alone.”
She could tell that he was not buying it, but she also knew that he would leave it alone and give her time to tell him, in her own time and way.
She walked passed him and stroked his naked stomach as she went into the bedroom.
Chester went into the bathroom, to get ready for bed. As he was brushing his teeth, he saw that Sasha’s cupboard was not closed properly.
Normally, he did not go into her cupboard and she did not go into his. Not because they had secrets in there, but just because they wanted to have some privacy. It was not anything they ever talked about…it was just one of those silent agreements.
He looked at the semi-open cupboard, debating with himself whether to open it.
Sasha was already in bed, when Chester entered the bedroom. She was, as usual, reading one of her many books…this one was in English. She would do that every now and then, to keep her English up to date.
She was not looking at him. A sure sign that something was up with her. She would normally look at him, when he entered the room.
Sasha was concentrating on her book, as if it was the most important thing in the world. She did not dare looking at Chester and she knew she was giving herself away because she was usually almost drooling over him, when he entered the bedroom, wearing nothing but boxers.
A year of living with him, and she was still as much in love with him, as she had been the day he’d told her that she was the one he wanted to be with.
However, right now, she tried her best to ignore him.
Chester was wondering how long she would be able to keep up the poker face. He got into bed and moved a little closer to her. She did not react, but he could see that it was difficult for her to ignore him.
He could still become all tongue-tied, when she looked at him and when she randomly touched him, he would actually gasp and feel himself be ready for her within a second.
He gently gave her a peck on the cheek, while stroking her thigh. She drew a deep breath, looked at him and said ‘Look, I have to talk to you about something, and I’m not quite sure how to tell you because…..well, to be honest I’m not sure if I’m happy or not.’
He raised her eyebrows at her and went ‘that sounds serious. Tell me. What’s up?’
Sasha’s heart felt like it was going to jump out of her chest, as she said the words she had never thought she would ever say in her life ‘I’m pregnant. I still need the doctor to confirm it, but the stick turned blue.’
She looked at him and watched his face go from wondering and into the biggest smile, she had ever seen. She did love to see him smile.
He looked at her with the huge smile still on his face and said ‘I have a confession, hotness. I already knew because I looked in your cupboard in the bathroom. I know we don’t do that and I don’t normally, either…but the door was open and I just couldn’t control my curiosity. I was just waiting for you to tell me and you didn’t last very long, this time.’
Sasha’s first instinct was to rip his head off, for looking in her cupboard and she went ‘You little prick. Why didn’t you just tell me that you knew?’
‘Well, I couldn’t very well just blurt out ‘are you pregnant?’, now could I?’ He said with a guilty look on his face.
‘I guess not,’ Sasha said, now feeling guilty for pregnant doging at him ‘but….hell, I don’t know. Chester, I’m scared. I don’t even know if I’m happy about this yet. It’s like a really big deal and I don’t know if I can deal with it, much less with being a mom.’ Sasha rambled.
‘Sasha?’ Chester looked at her with a mix of pity and intense love.
‘….what?’ She said when she stopped her rambling long enough to hear him say her name.
‘First of all…you need the confirmation from the doctor….and then we have nine f**king months to get used to the idea. You have to calm the hell down and remember that I’m here for you. I’m here to help you and to support you in any way you want and need me to. The worst you can do for our baby….is stress yourself out with bad thoughts, okay? We can do this. You can do this, I know it.’ Chester said with so much affection in his voice, Sasha almost started to cry. It was rare that he held speeches like that and she knew it was a big deal when he did. He kissed her and told her to go to sleep.
She lay down in his arms, her head on his chest and said ‘Chester. I’m scared out of my mind.’
‘I know,’ he said ‘but it’s going to be alright. A million people around the world do this every day and I know in my heart that we can, too. I’m sorry…but I’m excited. I can’t believe I’ll be a dad. Through all the crap in my life, during the years….all I wanted was to be a parent…and now I will be.’ He said dreamily.
Sasha smiled because she knew how much it meant to him. ‘I know,’ she said ‘it’s just about all you’ve rambled about since I met you. I was actually surprised that you had been married twice and never had any children. When I first met you, I actually thought you had kids, for some reason and that you were dragging them around the world on tour.’
‘Nah,’ he said ‘Sophia wasn’t keen on kids, plus we were extremely young and Melinda and I just never got around to it, because I was away so much. But yeah, I always wanted to…and now it’s going to happen.’ He smiled one of his biggest and most cute smiles and she had never loved him more, she thought as she fell asleep in his arms.
The next day, Sasha called the doctor to make an appointment and it turned out that she could come later that day, which suited her fine.
Chester insisted on coming with her because as he said ‘Hey, it’s my kid too, in there.’ and pointed to her stomach.
They went to the doctor and the home test had been right. Sasha was indeed pregnant. Chester couldn’t control himself at the doctor’s office, jumped off his chair, and screamed his glee out. Sasha was a little more controlled and just smiled a cautiously and gave Chester a kiss.
When they got home, the first thing Chester did…was to call Mike in LA and tell him the news. Sasha could hear Mike scream his little heart out, on the phone. He and Anna had tried to get pregnant for the past 8 months and they were a little frustrated that nothing was happening, but Mike was always the best friend and he was happy for Chester and Sasha.
He had asked Chester to talk to Sasha.
‘Mike?’ Sasha said ‘I could hear your scream from the living room, man. You’d think that Chester had just told you that Anna was pregnant and not me.’ Sasha chuckled a little.
‘Well, this is almost just as good. But seriously, congratulations Mom!’ Mike was squealing.
Sasha cringed ‘Okay, can we not call me that until the brat is here?’ She was still a little uncomfortable with the whole situation.
‘Aw, come on Sash. You’ll be a wonderful mom just as Chaz will be a great dad’ Mike said, knowing that Sasha wasn’t all that yay-ish about kids.
‘Oh, I know that Chester will be the best dad in the world. It’s my mother-skills I’m not so sure about. I guess I’ll have to rely on that mother instinct thing.’ Sasha said, finding it a little funny how Mike would always call them Chaz and Sash. She did not know if it was just laziness or not…but she rather liked her new nickname.
‘You’ll be fine, sweetie.’ Mike said, sounding very convincing, actually. ‘So when are you two coming over again? We miss you over here.’ Mike asked.
‘Well,’ Sasha said, walking into the living room so Chester could not hear what she was saying. ‘I’ve not talked to Chester about this yet, but I’ve been thinking that we should move to LA permanently. I mean, now that I’m pregnant and all…I want our kids to grow up in the states. I’ve not told him anything about any of this, but I’m thinking about doing it later today.’ Sasha whispered into the receiver.
‘Whoo!!!’ Mike screamed ‘That would be awesome, Sash! I just know that he will worship you for this…well, more than he already does. But yeah. Then he doesn’t have to spend all those money on plane rides to LA, when we want to work on our music and he doesn’t have to be all stressed out over not making it home to you on time and whatnot. That’d be great, sweetie.’ Mike was all happiness and Sasha could not help but laugh at him.
‘You’re so sweet, Mike.’ She said. ‘The way you can get soooo excited for other people, is just amazing and I love you for it. Now, here’s Chester back and remember: shhhhh!’
‘Oh that’s our secret, sweetie.’ Mike said.
Sasha handed Chester the phone and Mike and him talked for another hour or so. There was no stopping them, once they got started. Sasha often teased them and said they were worse than women.
Later that night, when Chester and Sasha was watching TV, Sasha was ready to tell Chester what she’s been thinking since she found out she was pregnant.
‘Chester?’ She started. ‘Hmm?’ He answered, distracted by a show on the TV.
‘Chester, can you pay attention for a few minutes? I have something important, I want to talk to you about.’ Sasha said, a little annoyed.
Chester turned around and looked at her. ‘I’m sorry. What do you want to talk about?’ He asked.
‘Well,’ Sasha said. ‘I thought that, you know, now that I’m apparently pregnant and all that. Maybe we should think about selling my house and move to your house in L.A. permanently?’
Chester’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened. ‘Are you serious?! You want to move to the states permanently?’ He obviously was a little flabbergasted and very surprised.
‘Well, yeah. I mean our kids will obviously be both Danish and American, but I would like them to grow up in the states. Obviously, we’re going here at least once a year, because they need to get to know Denmark and the Danish language, as well. But yes, I want us to move to the states.’ Sasha explained.
Chester smiled ‘Kids?! Plural?’
‘Well, yeah. I mean, now that I’m pregnant, I figure it’s something that will happen again. Especially with a man like you, you pervert. By the way, haven’t you heard anything else I said?’ Sasha grinned at him.
Chester laughed ‘Well, yes I heard you. But I couldn’t help but notice that you said ‘kids’ and I just thought it was a mistake, so I just wanted to clarify.’
Sasha glared at him ‘My English is better than that, you evil man.’
‘Oh! I have to tell Mike!’ Chester exclaimed.
‘No need to.’ Sasha grinned. ‘He already knows. I told him earlier, when I was on the phone with him. He was a bit excited. Well, you know Mike…’
‘Yeah, he was screaming into your ear.’ Chester chuckled. ‘He’s such a happy bunny.’
‘Nah.’ Sasha said, as she snuggled up to him. ‘You’re the happy bunny. My happy bunny.’
‘Yup. I’ll be a father and I’ll move back to the states again. And everything with you. I couldn’t possibly be happier.’ Chester said affectionately.
‘Uh, you think this will affect my songwriting?’ He grinned.
‘Ha, it probably will. From now on, you’ll only be able to write songs about children, diapers and….uh, Winnie the Pooh.’ Sasha laughed. ‘I think you may cause Linkin Park to lose a fan here and there, if that happens. Myself included.’
Chester just grunted and pretended to be miffed, even though he just held her tighter and had never been happier.
The next week was spent with Sasha calling various real estate agents, to have them come look at her house and give her a price.
After a lot of talking back and forth, Chester and her finally decided on an agent and the house was put up for sale, three days before Chester had to meet up with the rest of the band in Poland, to start their tour.
Sasha was always on edge, when Chester went on tour. Chester understood this, because…well, most girls would be like that, if their man traveled a lot and had girls hanging around him all the time. The jealousy was inevitable, but they both hated it.
Chester was in the bedroom, packing his bags, when Sasha came home from work. She had had a bad night, with her boss being really annoying and the band complaining about the lighting non-stop, so when she walked in and saw Chester packing, she couldn’t take it anymore.
‘Could you please do that when I’m at work?!’ She said, already realizing that she was over reacting.
Chester turned around and raised his eyebrows. ‘I thought I was. I didn’t know you’d be home so early. And hi to you, too.’ He said, also on edge.
He was looking forward to get back on the road with the guys, but hated to be away from Sasha. He wished, and had asked her several times to quit her job and go on the road with him, but she was too proud to do that. She’d visit him here and there, but would not quit her job because she didn’t want to depend on Chester’s money to support her.
‘Well, you would’ve known if you ever checked your f**king cell phone messages, because I wrote you when I left the club! And don’t make this about me not saying hi or something. It’s not about that and you f**king know it!’ She yelled at him.
Chester walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, kissed her forehead and said ‘I know. It’s about you freaking out because I’m going on tour in two days and you won’t be able to come see me until next weekend. It’s the little green monster and I know it…and you also know that there’s no need for that little f**king monster to be in your head. You know I love you, right?’
‘Yes, I know. But I just hate all this crap. I mean…you know I’m happy about your success and everything and I know it’s your job and that you love it. It’s just so hard for me to know that these girls are basically throwing themselves at you, if you let them, and…’
‘…and I won’t let them.’ Chester finished. ‘I won’t let them, because you’re the only one for me and because no one has ever made me feel the way you do. You understand me in ways no one ever has. I mean…you get me and I get you and there’s just no competing with that.’ He explained for what seemed to be the 100th time, since they’d been together.
Sasha sighed and sat down on the bed, next to Chester’s bags and suitcases. ‘I know. I’m sorry, I keep reacting like this. I really try to keep it under control, but sometimes I just snap’ Sasha said with tears in her eyes.
‘I know.’ Chester said. ‘But we really have to do something about it, soon because even though I know how you feel and I know it will never go away completely, it’s getting a little old, don’t you think?’
Sasha glared at him and wondered where the ever-so-understanding-Chester went. ‘Well, yeah…but it’s not like I choose to feel like this and freak out. And I don’t know how to make it go away, so yeah. Maybe I should just stay away from you, until you come back home again…’ She pondered, almost to herself.
‘Oh, come on, babe!’ Chester couldn’t believe she was being such a drama queen about it.
‘You know I don’t mean it like that. But seriously. If you look at it with common sense, it is a little stupid. I mean I’ve never given you any reason not to trust me. And you’re being a f**king drama queen right now and you know it.’
Sasha was not liking him very much right now. She hated to fight with him, especially when she knew he was right.
She got up and walked away, without saying a word. She went to the living room and turned on the TV, expecting Chester to follow her and apologize.
When she had watched TV for about half an hour, she was so tired that she couldn’t keep her eyes open and she went back to the bedroom.
It had been a busy year, since they had moved in together, in Sasha’s house in Denmark. They lived here most of the time because of Sasha’s work and because the rest of the band could, easy, pick up Chester in Copenhagen, when they were on tour.
